PetFirst Pet Insurance Reviews, Costs & Coverage

PetFirst Pet Insurance

History

PetFirst has been in business for over 12 years and understands the importance of helping pet parents pay for unexpected veterinary care. PetFirst was founded by Brent Hinton and Lansdon Robbins after Brent had to put his dog down following an injury. It was from this tragedy that Brent and Lansdon decided they wanted to help alleviate financial worries as much as possible when it came to veterinary care. In just over a decade, they have quickly become the fastest growing pet insurance company in the country, and are completely dedicated to helping pet owners keep their beloved furry friends healthy as long as can be. PetFirst helps provide the financial assistance many pet owners need in emergency situations and they also provide discounts for families with multiple insured pets

What They Cover

PetFirst offers top-quality, comprehensive policies that cover just what any pet owner would hope for, such emergency care, accidents, illness, injuries, image tests, surgery, prescriptions, hospitalizations, and alternative treatments. PetFirst has created policies to suit almost any need by pet owners.

What They Don’t Cover

As with any pet insurance company, there are a few things that PetFirst doesn’t cover, namely:

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Spaying and neutering
  • Elective procedures such as tail docking, skin folds, declaws and nail trims.
Plan Coverage Options

PetFirst also does a great job of offering policies that are extremely affordable for any budget with deductibles as low as $50 per incident, but also up to $500 if you’re wanting to adjust the monthly premium. They offer reimbursement rates from 70% - 90% and limits from $2,000 up to $10,000. They also have some of the shortest wait times with accident coverage starting only one day after the policy starts. Just be aware that the plan deductible with Pet First is on a per-incident basis, which means that you’ll be paying the deductible every time you visit the vet for a different condition. If you only visit your vet once per year though, this can be a very competitive plan to choose.

How much does PetFirst insurance cost?

Well as you may imagine, the cost of pet insurance depends on a few key variables: the breed of your pet, their age, and where you live. After that, it’s down to you how much coverage you want, how big (or small) a deductible you want to pay and how much of a reimbursement (the amount you get back after the deductible is paid) you select.

My girlfriend and I got a cat after we moved in together and I thought a cat would be easy. Surprisingly, he’s needed more vet visits than I expected, but the shelter had recommended insurance. I found Ptefirst and they’ve handled things so far!

Washington, Maine Coon cat
Very glad I thought to get insurance.
Kevin

For the most part my dog has been relatively disease and injury free but she did sprain and cut her paw a while back, needed a vet visit, meds and the cone. Since she hadn’t cost much so far I was shocked to get the vet bill. It was close to a thousand dollars after the numerous visits, xrays, and other meds to make sure the cut didn’t get worse. As a new grad I couldn’t afford the bill. That was whem I was really glad Petfirst was behind me. They fulfilled the claim and helped calm me down and got the money to me within a couple weeks

Kentucky, Boxer
They called to check on my dog!
Margaret

I called to make a claim after my dog was hit by a car and needed extensive emergency help, Petfrst helped calm me daown, reimbursed me, and even called a few week s later to see how my dog’s recovery was going!! That made me feel like they really care for the best of an animal.

Alabama, Basset Hound
Covered almost the whole bill!
Mikayla

My dog Kiera was attacked by another dog and got badly bitten/cut to the point of needing stitches. It was my friend’s new dog she had ust rescued so I didn’t want to make her pay as she felt bad enough that Kiera got hurt, so thankfully Petfirst helped me with the invoice and covered the majority! Such a big help.
